Science 7: An introduction to some of the major topics of life science such as: cell biology, genetics, human anatomy, ecology, and more. This is then followed by a brief study in earth science including topics on: rocks and minerals, weather, and so on. The knowledge gained from this course of study will be needed at the end of 8th grade when taking the NYS 8th Grade Science Assessment.

Science 8: A brief look at some basic chemistry and physics during the first half of the school year. The periodic table, equations, and reactions will be a priority in chemistry while forces and motion will be the focus in physics. The second half of the year will be dedicated to intense and thorough review of the science material learned in grades 6-8. This is in preparation for the NYS 8th Grade Science Assessment that will be given at the end of the year.

Living Environment: This course revisits the life science of 7th grade, but involves a higher level of thinking. Concepts and ideas are a key part of this curriculum. Students must now be able to apply basic biological facts to various situations. The NYS Regents in the Living Environment is given at the end of this course of study.

Earth Science: This course revisits the earth science of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, but involves a higher level of thinking as was experienced previously in The Living Environment. Concepts and ideas are still a key part of this curriculum. Students must be able to apply basic earth science facts to various situations. The NYS Regents in Earth Science is given at the end of this course of study.

Environmental Science: An awareness and understanding of the outdoor world in our rural community can be very useful. This course of study involves 4 foundational topics: aquatics, forestry, soils, and wildlife. Every year a new current issues topic is presented reflecting the concerns of the scientific community in areas such as global warming and groundwater quality and quantity. This years current issues topic involves saltwater and freshwater estuaries. Two teams are sent to the Cattaraugus County Envirothon to test their knowledge gained throughout the year. If successful one of these teams may move on to higher level competitions at the state and national levels.
